Be Happy-Enhance Your Social Network

With the civilization advancing, we all are getting busy and busier in our own tasks and consequently, we do not find enough time to contact personally or communicate our relatives, friends, well-wishers and others very frequently. This process has become a part of our routine life and converted into our attitude when we see our priorities.

Our elders advise us that if we continue to keep our contacts by personal visits or through any mode of communication with our relatives, friends and well-wishers, we would be able to reduce the chances of developing any misunderstanding with or amongst them regarding us. For arranging frequent meetings with our loved ones, our forefathers had started to hold fairs, get-togethers, religious congregations etc. so that the people were able to meet, talk, and enjoy together more frequently. The frequent contacts enable you to weed out the misunderstandings. Our regular contact with them strengthens our relationship also. Since we are social animals and our emotional health matters a lot, our active social contacts play a vital role even to keep our physical health sound and better.

It is true that due to increasing complexities of our life we are pressurized to work a lot for leading a better life and that over-work has reduced the availability of spare time greatly. But with the advancements made by science in communication methods, the world has become a village where the people can contact each other within seconds of time. As many people you contact, your social network would go on the enhancement of its size.

Actually, a social network is a social structure made of individuals connected by one or more specific types of interdependency, such as friendship, kinship, common interest, financial exchange, dislike, sexual relationships, or relationships of beliefs, knowledge or prestige. As bigger your social network be, so greater you may be having your social value. Your network can also be used to measure social capital -- the value that you get from the social network. You can share your joys and sorrows, you can exchange the views and express your stand at any issue in a general way or to some specific group – it depends upon you how to do your social networking.

Social networking is the grouping of individuals into specific groups, like small rural communities or a neighborhood subdivision, if you will. Although social networking is possible in person, especially in the workplace, universities, and high schools, it is most popular online. This is because unlike most high schools, colleges, or workplaces, the internet is filled with millions of individuals who are looking to meet other people, to gather and share first-hand information and experiences about hand-gliding, golfing, gardening, aesthetics and cosmetic surgery, developing friendships or professional alliances, finding employment, business-to-business marketing and even groups sharing information about the current topics. The topics and interests are as varied and rich as the story of our world.

Social networks have also been used to examine how individuals/organizations interact with each other, characterizing the many informal connections that link executives together, as well as associations and connections between individual employees at different organizations. For example, power within organizations often comes more from the degree to which an individual within a network is at the center of many relationships than actual job title. Social networks also play a key role in hiring, in business success, and in job performance. Networks provide ways for companies to gather information, deter competition, and collude in setting prices or policies.

When it comes to online social networking, websites are commonly used. These websites are known as social sites. Social networking websites function like an online community of internet users. Depending on the website in question, many of these online community members share common interests in hobbies, religion, or politics. Once you are granted access to a social networking website you can begin to socialize. This socialization may include reading the profile pages of other members and possibly even contacting them.

The friends that you can make are just one of the many benefits to social networking online. Another one of those benefits includes diversity because the internet gives individuals from all around the world access to social networking sites. This means that although you are in the United States, you could develop an online friendship with someone in Denmark or India. Not only will you make new friends, but you just might learn a thing or two about new cultures or new languages and learning is always a good thing.

As mentioned, social networking often involves grouping specific individuals or organizations together. While there are a number of social networking websites that focus on particular interests, there are others that do not. The websites without a main focus are often referred to as "traditional" social networking websites and usually have open memberships. This means that anyone can become a member, no matter what their hobbies, beliefs, or views are. However, once you are inside this online community, you can begin to create your own network of friends and eliminate members that do not share common interests or goals. Now-a-days, as it is being observed, the recruiters all over the world mostly go through the internet to verify the contents of the application of the candidates before hiring them, to ascertain their suitability.

There are dangers associated with social networking including data theft and viruses, which are on the rise. The most prevalent danger though often involves online predators or individuals who claim to be someone that they are not. Although danger does exist with networking online, it also exists with networking out in the real world, too. Just like you're advised when meeting strangers at clubs and bars, school, or work -- you are also advised to proceed with caution online. By being aware of your cyber-surroundings and who you are talking to, you should be able to safely enjoy social networking online. It will take many phone conversations to get to know someone, but you really won't be able to make a clear judgment until you can meet each other in person. Just use common sense and listen to your inner voice; it will tell you when something doesn't feel right about the online conversations taking place.

Though we find merits and demerits in every system, we have to look out the merits first and should try to remove the demerits. Our social contacts can help us to carry on this procedure as it may be possible that all the time you may not be so intelligent to measure up every merit and demerit. Take help from your friends before it gets too late.

Be Happy - Live with joy

You are intended by God to live your life here in great joy and for that, He gifted you great wisdom, enormous resources and energy abounding. Great wisdom is to you to enable you to exploit the resources judiciously and for that, you need energy which is available at your disposal for next millions of years – this is you how to harness that too in right direction.

We all come to this world to experience our own reality – to learn who we are by being what we thought would be best for us. Eventually, most of us reach a place where we are not so content with doing our lives in the old ways. Most people may never recognize this state when it happens. They may go on doing life as they always have until they die discontented. This is not the way life was intended to be lived here. But it is the way many people live their lives. Life is intended to be lived here. But it is the way many people live their lives. Life is intended to be lived here in great joy, with great wisdom, and with energy abounding. It must be lived positively with great adventures and inventions towards the welfare of the society, to leave behind your legacy so that the people may remember you for the reason that you had contributed to the society through your own entrepreneurship.

I know that for me there were many years in which I sensed that I wasn’t doing my life exactly as I needed. I was either in the wrong profession, living in the wrong place, or with the wrong people, or trying to convince myself that I was happy. It wasn’t working.

I knew in my heart that I didn’t have time to continue living that way, that if I did I would never be happy or fulfill my life’s purpose. I am continuing to fight for the cause. I have seen many people to be self centric – they count on their own efforts but forget others’ contribution to them. We are forgetting the sense of gratitude, our thankfulness to a person for the kind deeds he did for us.

We do not remember God, our parents, our elders and the environment in which we grew up with so many facilities available for us. We remember only shortcomings and live on negatively. This squeezes our interest. If you feel content with those facilities which you have but not the other one, you will say that you have reached a place where you feel relatively content with you life. To say so, you will have to see to the poorer than you. If you compare yourself with a person who is richer than you, you may loose your mental peace and perhaps your target too in due course of time. It would be a negative approach. You may fix up your target higher than the rich person – struggle for it honestly and when you achieve it, your pleasure would be manifold than that person has. If you learn to do these things to the best of your ability, then there is no more for you to do here ever.

After gaining the initial satisfaction, you would remain here to explore further what else you can do to discover the parts of your wisdom which have been dormant, waiting for the right moment to come forward. This is what’s meant by self-discovery – finding the parts which need to come forward and allowing them to express through you in whatever way seems most appropriate. For this you need relaxed mind, not the tense one.

Sometime, we may be following someone else’s mandates or beliefs, or we may be allowing our souls to remain blocked until we are ready to fully experience our truth. Do you see what I mean? Have you found you life blocked or unrewarding? Can you see new ways in which you may enjoy your life, if you gave yourself the chance? To enjoy: to bring more joy into your life. Ways in which you might express your true self? Ways in which you might give love to others? And receive love for yourself? If you answer yes to any of these questions, then I suggest you look deeper inside yourself and discover where your joy may lie dormant - perhaps in search of gathering more and more earthly possessions which may perish away in course of time.

Look until you find the things, which bring you, joy and then begin doing them. You may not find your truth entirely the next moment. It usually takes years for one to open fully to one’s self, after years of self-denial. But you can begin to discover the things, which have always brought you, joy and allow yourself to begin doing them. One must move into the light in baby steps until one is ready to run with it. But holding back from it entirely brings great pain. The pain you feel in your soul may be from holding yourself back from experiencing joy and love.

You must take account of yourself and find out what you have, what you have committed for and what your capacity is to meet those commitments. In case you feel lagging behind, you must surrender immediately instead of carrying on your mental tension to meet the short fall. Don’t commit in excess of your limits. That will be true joy to live on. Be true to yourself and your nears – you will be happier.

Be Happy – Live with Joy.

Be Happy – Be volunteer

Sometime, we feel tired of professionally doing some thing in routine way – we need something new to do or carry on our hobby for the sake of our mental satisfaction, without any consideration of remuneration in terms of money. Community service or social welfare job like gardening in colony park or service in local temple, mosque or church is also done in this direction. A person who voluntarily offers himself or herself for a service or undertaking, or a person who performs a service willingly and without pay, in military, a person who enters the service voluntarily rather than through conscription or draft, esp. for special or temporary service rather than as a member of the regular or permanent army is called as volunteer. In legal terms, we define that person to be volunteer whose actions are not founded on any legal obligation so to act, or a person who intrudes into a matter that does not concern him or her, as a person who pays the debt of another where he or she is neither legally nor morally bound to do so and has no interest to protect in making the payment.

If you wish to be a volunteer, you may consider why you want to volunteer. Do you want to help the society or your community? Do you want to build your own skills, learn or make new friends by joining their community or group? Do you love what you do? Do you want to share your gifts with others or give something back? There are many opportunities which can lead you to choose the right direction for your volunteer work.

Choose an organization that is meaningful to you. If you feel strongly about self literacy, for instance, volunteer at your local library or find out if there is an organization of volunteer tutors in your area. There are organizations doing all sorts of work, and it is especially important with volunteer work that you choose something that you value like volunteering at a hospital or animal shelter.

Look for an organization or activity in your area or community. Some volunteers do sign up for the Peace Corps or other worldwide organizations and travel to remote parts of the world. You too can do it. To start with, you may do on a smaller scale if you already have commitments at home. If you do plan on venturing abroad in your volunteer work, get lots of information about what to expect there and ask your doctor about getting immunizations appropriate to your destination. Talk to others who have traveled with your intended organization and ask them to share their experiences, too.

Seek out an organization and tasks within it that suit your skills and interests. Of course, you can develop new skills and learn many things by volunteering, but your volunteer work can still be compatible with your interests. If you're an outgoing "people person", you might not have much fun in the back office stuffing envelopes or filing papers. Others, by contrast, might find it uncomfortable to solicit funds door-to-door. Do you love to work with people? With animals? With children? With numbers? Are you handy? Do you love to speak or to write? Organizations need all sorts of skills. If you're not sure what sort of work you like or dislike, a volunteer organization may be a great opportunity to dabble a bit and try different things.

Start small. If you already have a busy schedule, volunteer your time for an hour or two per week or perhaps one day per month. Just about anybody can free up that much time easily. Try turning off the TV! You might be surprised how much you can accomplish in even a little bit of time. Then, if you find you enjoy the work and have more time to pursue it, gradually take on more.

Get to know others in the organization and how the group supports volunteers. Attend a training or orientation session, if one is available; if not, talk to local group leaders and other volunteers in the community about their experiences. You'll learn what to expect of an organization and your work with it, and you'll pick up some good tips to make your work there more productive and more meaningful.

Explain your own background and preferences to those in charge. They can help to match you with meaningful, suitable tasks, but only if they know a bit about who you are.

o Ask, don't demand. The people in charge of organizing, whether or not they are also volunteers, have certain needs to meet and may be quite busy.
o Especially if you're just starting out, consider helping with an immediate need even if it is not the ideal match for your abilities. Work doesn't always neatly match the people available to do it. You will still be helping the organization and you might learn a new skill or discover something about yourself. The favor you earn may also help you into a more suitable or desirable task next time.
o Get started. Ask plenty of questions and do your research, but until you sign up and get your feet wet, you won't know if volunteering for a particular organization is really right for you.
o Get training. If your organization has a formal orientation or training, attend it. If not, or if you still don't know where to begin, ask to work with an experienced volunteer or group. Then, ask lots of questions and give it a shot.
o Try not to give up. Volunteer organizations, too, sometimes have less-pleasant tasks, difficult fellow workers, busy times, slow times, or bad management. If you find your work unpleasant, you have your own choices.
o Work through it, anyway. If you feel it needs doing, but it's dull or heavy work, put the music on, divide it into manageable pieces, take breaks when you need them, and get the job done. Don't forget to look for ways to ease the task or prepare better next time.
o Get help. If you're overwhelmed, confused, or stuck, ask if there is anyone else that could step up and give you a hand, even temporarily to get through some backlog or difficulty. Organizations may also have other resources to draw on, from contacts to sister organizations to libraries and municipalities.
o Fix the problem. If there's something in your way, it's probably in everybody else's way, too. Lead the charge to get more volunteers, more money, better equipment, or skilled help. Clean up messes when you see them. Suggest (gently, please!) how matters could be better handled or organized. Or, simply bring the problem to the attention of the organization or its leaders and ask what can be done.
o Take a break or back off. If you're exhausted, you may not be doing yourself or anyone else any good. Would everybody be better off if you came back with fresh energy later?
o Ask to do something else. If you feel you can better serve the organization by doing something more in line with your talents or skills, say so, and let organization leaders know what sorts of tasks or talents you would rather contribute.
o Look to another organization or branch. If you have tried all your best diplomatic skills and still have difficulty with the tasks or people you encounter, leave graciously and look elsewhere. Mismatches and mismanagement can happen in volunteer organizations, too.
o Start your own organization or volunteer freelance. It is some difficult job because then, you may be on your own to provide the money and talent that an established volunteer organization may already have secured. But once established, you would have name and fame, both together.

In brief, for those who have some spare time and interest to do something, being volunteer is the best way to accomplish the dreams as that provides you flexibility in your working. But make it sure that once you commit for something, you must adhere to the schedules as be required. Otherwise, you may loose your mental peace.

Be Happy – Become Role Model to Someone

The term role model generally means any "person who serves as an example, whose behavior is emulated by others. There is a little difference between role model and mentor. Role Model is one which we intend to copy – it is not essential that the person who is intended to be my role model knows about our intention or not. But the mentor knows his purpose; he takes action directly or indirectly to effect the changes in your aptitude, working, dressing etc. with or without your consent. I think mentoring is an understanding between two or more people. It is a way for people to learn from each other. Even though most think mentors are older, I think it's a bond and no matter age, race, or gender. It's a way for people to communicate!

Who is a Role Model?

True role models are those who possess the qualities that we would like to have and those who have affected us in a way that makes us want to be better people, to advocate for ourselves and our goals and take leadership on the issues that we believe in. We often don't recognize our true role models until we have noticed our own personal growth and progress . . . I think that I serve as a temporary role model to my younger sister but she just doesn't want to admit it yet. She is found to have been copying my actions many times but she does not accept plainly that she got inspiration from me.

My mother influenced me to not set limits on what I could do. She had an academic achievement in commercial art but she had to give up her idea of a career because my dad was on a touring job and we moved around a lot. I had a teacher in Junior High who inspired me to try to live up to my potential. What she did was pull me aside one day and pointed out to me that if I would apply myself a little harder I was capable of accomplishing my dreams quickly. I didn't take her advice right then, but it gave me quite a boost and started me to thinking and paying more attention. She was a daughter of a forest ranger and shared a lot of her experiences (with her father) with her students. I was very impressed by her life. I was the new kid in school and she spent extra time with me to help me out. I was real shy and buried in books at that age. When she jumped on me for being lazy I definitely sat up and took notice. I believe the best roles models make us see the possibilities within ourselves.

Lately, I have been privileged to have some very young role models. I have been influenced by the vitality and passion that youngsters have in making their lives and the lives of others better. I find that there is so much to learn from our youth but unfortunately, we often forget that.

I believe a person has many role models in their lives. Each role model teaches a person about themselves. A role model to me is someone who not only treats me as an equal but is honest, trusting, and most of all open-minded especially in today’s society.

I think a good role model encourages me to believe I can get to where I should be. I have numerous role models, from my daughter, who reminds me what is really important in life, to my boss and dear friend, who encourages me to think and use the power of my voice and the strength of my fist. My mother has always taught me that you can be anyone or anything you want to be and my sister showed me what courage really was. You can think about yourself – who are your role models? Mention on a paper and see what inspiration you get from them individually. If not possible, go through your achievements just you made and ascertain how you had been inspired to get those achievements.

I believe people who are role models know that they are, whether they like it or not. It is their behavior that people look up to. It is their leadership qualities that others want to see and model. It is the smile that they give to others. It is the look you get.

If you are out in the community, your community, you are being looked at. All the good things you do reflect yourself and your family. Who said life was fair? We are here to take care of one another and if it means modeling healthy behavior, then someone has to do it. Go for it. This is taught to us by our parents, respected community person or other family member, etc.

To me I think a Good Role Model is a person who tells, or influences you to make the right choice in life. Like for example my mother she always tells me "you’re not going to get nowhere in life until you prove it to yourself" whatever that means. But if I didn't have anyone like my mother to remind me everyday. . . I might be that lazy, oh lazy young boy rocking in my chair, doing nothing for myself but, getting old. But YES my mother is the greatest role model for me. Why? The answer is that she believes in everyone has a dream like Dr.King said . . . My mother a fine role model for me and my sisters.

I think role models have changed over the generations. People used to describe their role models as being people they didn't know i.e. movie stars and athletes. Now, (evident by this discussion) people tend to find role models that are in some way or another involved in their lives. I think this is great, and it emphasizes one of my favorite sayings, "It takes a village to raise a child."

I think the other piece about a role model that is important is that it is not just someone who you look up to or is successful, but someone who has had to go through similar struggles/ challenges as we.

I agree with everyone’s ideas about what a role model should be and what characteristics they should have, but to give someone the label of being a role model is telling them that you are, or you would like to use them as an example to young children and other people who "are not on the right track" and basically saying that you should "be like" or consider "following his/her foot steps". What I'm getting at is we need to take the other person’s feelings into consideration for example: I would never consider myself a role model for the simple fact that I have problems of my own and I feel pressured, and I'm not perfect; it just so happens that I stumbled upon the most wonderful opportunity, and was empowered to make my own decisions in life to set my goals. I found my passion and I plan to build my future around my goals. In conclusion I would just like to encourage people to not just slap a label on anyone.

Whether you like it or not the choice you make or stumble upon make you who you are. you are making those choices, whether they are right or wrong and it doesn't look like they are steering you in the wrong directions. I always tell people, whether you like it or not people are looking at you, for better or worse. It’s hard, but somebody’s got to do it. And when you fall, they will be there to say "I told you so." Good lesson learned and you keep right on going.

I agree it's hard to label people a role model, but I just think of it as a friend we look up to or learn things from. Usually those are people who are a little older because they explain their insights so well, but then again my peers are also role models, like young people, because it reminds me that people like myself go through problems sometimes and still keep going. I think that as long as someone is honest and doesn't pretend to know all the right things to say or do, then that's the best example!

Role models are important. They help us become the person we want to be and inspire us to make a difference. Choosing wisely means that you are influenced correctly and will help you be the best person you can be.

You may choose someone who has a lot of confidence in themselves and their abilities. A good role model would be someone who knows who they are. You don't want someone who is down and who will bring you down. You want someone who won't pretend to be someone they are not, and won't be fake just to suit other people.

You may think about someone who interacts well with others', and someone who is kind and can communicate well with people. You may look for someone who is living life the way you would like to. If you want to be a famous author, your role model could be someone who has been successful at writing. If you have always wanted to be a nurse, your role model could be someone at your local hospital who is dedicated to their job and someone who you look up to for their achievements.

You may find someone who doesn't always take credit for what they do. Like a teacher or nurse. Not a celebrity or athlete because most of them tend to be conceited. You can choose a role model who may have done something you find admirable, such as raised a lot of money for charity, saved lots of lives, helped people in need or discovered the cure for a disease.

You must keep in mind that having a role model does not mean you become exactly like that person, remember to retain your individuality. Emulate them, but put your own individuality into the things they do. A role model should be someone who you want to be like, and someone you admire. Better, you may become your own role model. This means to do the things that you would admire someone else for doing. Your role model doesn't have to be a real person, or someone who is alive. Maybe you consider Anne Frank to be your role model, or a character from a book. That's okay, but bear in mind that instead of being able to directly ask your role model for help, then you'll have to think, "What would he/she do in your position?"

You may have to be very much choosy as some poorly chosen role models may take advantage of their position and make you do things to make you look bad or a very bad influence to others. They also can direct you to a wrong place where you don’t want to be and you will do it because you want to please them.
How Can You Be a Role Model to Some Other One?

We live in a world in which basic values such as kindness and compassion are not often given the importance they are due. In the media, selfish and arrogant behavior patterns are often glorified. Besides this, it is not uncommon for people to get so caught up in day-to-day responsibilities and personal insecurities that they lose sight of their goals for personal development. Recovering your sense of integrity, or goodness, begins with identifying your personal values.
You would be surprised if you found out how many people look up to you. Think about how many people in your own life that has inspired you to get to where you are today. By being a good role model, you can help others to achieve success in their own lives. But people are different in there own ways.
You must be aware of your actions. Realize that somebody is watching you most of the time. Whether you are working diligently or picking your nose, chances are somebody noticed. You must identify your bad habits and problems that you have. This could be everything from getting drunk on purpose, smoking, or not getting enough sleep. To know if it is a bad habit or not, ask yourself the following questions:
o Does it hurt others around me?
o Is it detrimental to my health?
o Are the results of my actions good or bad?
o What are the long term effects?
o If I stopped doing it, would I become a better person?
o How does this affect my image as a role model? Is it a habit I would want others to deal with?
Once you figure out your bad habits and problems, fix them. Try doing little punishments to yourself whenever you do the bad habit and reward yourself for not doing it. You may not be able to stop doing it all at once. Try decreasing it little by little until you stop. Then, make sure you don't start again.
You may show off your good qualities. Chances are, people will see everything good that you do too. Make an effort to go out of your way if you think that you can help someone. You can be an inspiration. Whether you're a parent, teacher, coach, athlete, artist, or anything else, do what you do best. People you have never met and never will meet are watching you perform. It is up to you to meet their expectations and show them the right way through example.
For being a role model for someone, you may talk and become friends with the people who look up to you. Chances are, many of your friends do look up to you, whether you realize it or not. If you are a parent, put your family first. Older siblings, set a good example. Your younger siblings are imitating you most of the time. Remember, no one is perfect. Just do your best. If you are student, use the character traits that you learned about in school. Such as: empathy, honesty, attentive listening, etc.
If you are a bad role model, it will hurt those around you. Turn your life around, and you will be turning around more than one life. You must identify what it is that being a good person means to you personally.
o Who do you look up to?
o What qualities do you admire in them?
o Now, in what ways could you better embody those qualities you admire? Think of how to apply those qualities in your work, creative pursuits, personal relationships, diet and lifestyle.
You must accept everyone around you as your brothers and your sisters. You should not criticize anyone because of their gender, age, race, or culture. Instead, seek to understand and appreciate differences. And you must stop comparing others with yourself. You may celebrate others' victories and good qualities, even when you do not feel as blessed as they. Many cultures and religions have heroes, martyrs, and fables that may help individuals to find meaning and cultivate good character.
For being role model to others, you must love yourself. Practice unconditional self-acceptance. Pray and meditate to help cultivate the qualities you seek to embody. Cultivate both compassion and good karma through volunteer service. Volunteering is a great way to further a cause, support an organization, and make a difference in your community. It can also be an opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills. If you'd like to give something besides money, consider lending your time and talents to organizations that are important to you.

Be Happy – You may Expect same treatment from your children as You treat Your Parents

Have you ever thought how you came in this beautiful world? If you believe in materialism, you may think that you are the result of bilateral relation consummated between your parents. It is very natural that at some stage of age, everyone of us feels some urge to meet our physical need, as it is destined by God while structuring our bodies and our endeavor in that direction brings about birth of the children unless we plan otherwise.

When you set foot in the world, your parents held you for the first time in their arms at the hospital, your tiny hands were twitching and your eyes were shut tight. Your clenched fist reminded them of a science lesson that said to get an idea abut the size of your heart, you should clench you fist. They could imagine the little heart throbbing inside you, the eternal miracle of birth. When that was their turn to witness it, they might have cried. That was not materialism – that was an emotional attachment.

Before your father married your mother, both of them might have used to debate one question endlessly with their respective friends, “Is it really worth bringing another life into this world?” Especially when terror has become an ugly scene in the canvas of our lives? After your birth, your parents might have two options to raise you. One was to wean you on cynicism. Where you would erect a sky-high wall in your mind and lived your life pouring scorn on everything you might see, one way of insulating yourself from fear… A kind of indifferent machismo. The other way was to prepare you to live in this world. They might have assured themselves certainly to show you the way to live in an uncertain world, make a pact with yourself and understand the following early on.

After birth in a family of the human beings, you needed physical security – the safety of body and life and the parents who were responsible to bring you into being provide physical safety: shelter, clothes, nourishment. They protected you from dangers. They cared for your health physical development and provided appropriate conditions for your healthy growth. They provided you with the means to develop physically. They arranged to train your body to undertake some exercises to enable you to stand on your own feet. In materialism, it was not required.

But they helped you to develop habits of health Intellectual security – the conditions in which your mind could develop. They had provided an atmosphere of peace and justice and respect to your dignity. They gave you an environment without fear, threat, and abuse. They ensured intellectual development by providing opportunities to learn. How you learnt reading, writing, calculating etc., they had extended the support and/or provide school related learning. When you were growing up, they taught you social skills and etiquette.

They felt themselves responsible for your moral and spiritual development and accordingly, tried to create an ethics and value systems with social norms that contributed to your beliefs, culture; and customs. They provided you emotional security – to help protect your psyche and provide a safe loving environment. Your parents were always there to give you a sense of being loved, being needed, welcomed. They always provided you emotional support, encouragement by expressing their attachment, caressing, hugging, touching etc. They developed your ability to love, care, help, etc. and show empathy, helping and compassion to younger and older, weaker and sicker and caring for others,, etc.

When you were in the womb of your mother, you might have been affected by many decisions your parents might have made, particularly choices linked to their lifestyle. The health and diet decisions of the mother might have either a positive or negative impact on you during prenatal parenting.

Many people believe that parenting begins with birth, but the mother had begun your raising and nurturing well before birth. Scientific evidence indicates that from the fifth month on, the unborn baby is able to hear sound, be aware of motion, and possibly exhibit short-term memory. Several studies show evidence that the unborn baby can become familiar with his or her parents' voices. Other research indicates that by the seventh month, external schedule cues influence the unborn baby's sleep habits. Based on this evidence, parenting actually begins well before birth. Depending on how many children the mother carries also determines the amount of care needed during prenatal and post-natal periods. It means that your care by your parents was started when you did not take even birth.

When you were newborn, the ground responsibilities of parenthood had begun. A newborn's basic needs are food, sleep, comfort and cleaning which your parent provided. An infant's only form of communication is crying, and your attentive parents used to recognize different types of your crying representing different needs such as hunger, discomfort, boredom, or loneliness. Newborns and young infants require feedings every few hours which is disruptive to adult sleep cycles. You too did all these disruptions to them.

The forming of attachments is considered to be the foundation of the infant/child's capacity to form and conduct relationships throughout life. Attachment is not the same as love and/or affection although they often go together. Attachment and attachment behaviors tend to develop between the age of 6 months and 3 years. A lack of attachment or a seriously disrupted capacity for attachment could potentially amount to serious disorders. Have you ever thought about their contribution when you were between the age of 6 months and 3 years.

Until infants learn to walk, between 10 and 14 months, they are carried in the arms, held in slings or baby carriers, or transported in baby carriages or strollers. Upon learning to walk the child is then known as a toddler. You might have forgotten how you were carried in the arms safely here and there to enable you to have fresh air and some exercise to your body to strengthen further. Have a look on your photographs taken at that time or go through the memories of your elders who might have seen your parents carrying you.

Toddlers are much more active than infants and are challenged with learning how to do simple tasks by themselves. At that stage, your parents were heavily involved in showing you how to do things rather than just doing things for them. You needed help to build your vocabulary, increase your communications skills, and manage your emotions. Being toddlers you had also begun to understand social etiquette such as being polite and taking turns. At that time, your parents were there to help you learn all these things.

When you were very curious about the world around them and eager to explore it, you sought greater independence and responsibility and might have become frustrated when things did not go the way you wanted or expected. Your parents were there to help guide and teach you, establish basic routines (such as washing hands before meals, brushing teeth before bed), and increase your responsibilities.

When you grew up, you became more independent and began to build friendships. You were able to reason and could make your own decisions given hypothetical situations. But you needed constant attention, to learn how to deal with boredom and be able to play independently. Your parents were there to supervise you directly and indirectly.
When you started to enjoy helping and feeling useful and able, your parents assisted you by encouraging social interactions and modeling proper social behaviors. A large part of learning in the early years comes from being involved in activities and household duties. Your parents observed you in play or joined with you to communicate more effectively with you and to offer gentle, nurturing guidance. They had been teaching you health, hygiene, and eating habits through instruction and by example.

Initially, your parents were there to make decisions about your education and provide you the environment to enable you to take decision about further education and your professional life when you got mature.

In course of time, you attained adolescence, you started to begin to form your identity and test and develop the interpersonal and occupational roles. Although adolescents look to peers and adults outside of the family for guidance and models for how to behave, parents had remained influential in your development. Sometime they often felt isolated and alone when you overacted but they made efforts to be aware of your adolescents activities, provided guidance, direction, and consultation. Adolescence can be a time of high risk for children, where newfound freedoms can result in decisions that drastically open up or close off life opportunities. Your parents had been there behind the screen to watch you closely and guide you whenever they found you on the wrong track.

After some time, a child becomes young adult. As children become young adults their personalities show the result of successful or unsuccessful parenting. Especially it is noticeable when young adults make their independent life decisions about their education, work and choosing mates for friendship or marriage. Sometime, parents take the results to their hearts but it is still you to take appropriate action to reply back to pay off the debts upon you due to your upbringing to the present stage when you are able to take some decision.

You must not forget that if your parents are still alive, their parenting will not stop even if you grow older or get married, have your own children. They would always remain to be parents for you. Their relationship will continue developing from their end, whether you care for or not.

Life is precious. And equally fragile. So every day is a gift. Get up early once in a while just to watch the sun rise. Stare at it intently and burn it in your memory. Be aware of every passing second. Look around you. There’s a thin stalk of plant finding its place under the sun in a crevice on the wall of your apartment.

You must appreciate mother’s cooking. Praise it to heavens… Make it a habit to eat to heavens… Make it a habit to ear together as a family. No, make it a rule. Fall in love with books. Words will transport you to worlds far away. It will also keep you informed and prepared. You must follow your heart. The mind can waver but the heart. The mind can waver but the heart seldom does. Respect your conscience.

Your parents have farsightedness and know your nature since you came into this world. They know the intricacies and your capabilities to handle your crises and therefore are always there to lend their hands to solve out. If you underestimate them, you may perhaps be wrong in due course of time. You can take your course of action but after convincing them heartedly.

Your parents would always ask you to get a job you love as you enter the world of careers and cocktails, you’ll get sucked into a vortex called rat race. Don’t be overwhelmed. They may suggest you always that we’re all human. But have the courage to step out of it. Nothing will be lost. Some illusions may shatter.

They may emphasise upon money a little bit because that is important. But it has its place. They would advise you not to make the mistake of putting it right on top. You must find your love and hold it dearly. Be a good husband. A patient father. Give your children space to make their mistakes. But hold them when they fall as they did in their lives. They may ask you to speak up when you have to.

They can suggest you to go and vote. It’s your chance to give shape to the kind of society you want to live in since we’re living in a democracy whether we like it or not, Sure it has its pitfalls. But don’t forget the positives too. The real fight in a democracy is between remembering and forgetting. They would advise you to be alert. But try not to live in a state of fear.

You need to live every day of your life as your parents are doing, so that there remain memories left for your children to remember you afterwards. You must remember that you too will get how you pay off your debts to your parents – you can not pay back for the services you got from them. But it is certain that if you tender yourself affectionately and respectfully to them, your children may also copy you while you grow old and they serve you accordingly.

Be Happy – Don’t feel panic with Crises.

Crisis is an important part of our life. Some philosopher would definitely say to you that you have not enjoyed the life if you had never come across any crisis in your life. Why? Whenever it comes up, it tests your capability. It is that critical event or point of decision which, if not handled at all, or in an appropriate and timely manner), may turn into a disaster or catastrophe. It is a crucial or decisive point or situation; a turning point, an unstable condition, as in political, social, or economic affairs, involving an impending abrupt or decisive change, a sudden change in the course of a disease or fever, toward either improvement or deterioration, an emotionally stressful event or traumatic change in a person's life or a point in a story or drama when a conflict reaches its highest tension and must be resolved.

A crisis (plural: "crises") is any unstable and dangerous social situation regarding economic, military, personal, political, or social affairs, especially one involving an impending abrupt change. More loosely, it is a term meaning 'a testing time of your capabilities' or you can say it to be an 'emergency event'. The effect of our inability to attend to the likely results of our actions can result in crisis.

Crises can be specific, unexpected, and non-routine events or series of events that create high levels of uncertainty and threat or perceived threat to your high priority goals. Thus the first three characteristics are that the event is unexpected (i.e., a surprise), creates uncertainty, and is seen as a threat to important goals. Crisis is a process of transformation where the old system can no longer be maintained or it is a result of some shortcoming in your present system. It may ask you to make some urgent changes in your line of action. Therefore, the fourth defining quality is the need for change. If change is not needed, the event could more accurately be described as a failure.

Apart from natural crises that are inherently unpredictable (volcanic eruptions, tsunami etc.) most of the crises that we face are created by man. Hence the requirement of their being ‘unexpected’ depends upon man failing to note the onset of crisis conditions. Some of our inability to recognize crises before they become dangerous is due to denial and other psychological responses that provide succor and protection for our emotions.

A different set of reasons for failing to notice the onset of crises is that we allow ourselves to be 'tricked' into believing that we are doing something for reasons that are false. In other words, we are doing the wrong things for the right reasons. For example, we might believe that we are solving the threats of climate change by engaging in economic trading activity that has no real impact on the climate. You can call it inadvertent and deliberate errors.

Thus human deficiencies appear to be responsible for crises such as the Global Financial Crisis of 2008 (regulatory failures), the Iraq war (intelligence failures), the climate crisis (greed and cross subsidies), and many of our ecological crises. From this perspective we might usefully learn that failing to understand the real causes of our difficulties is likely to lead to repeated downstream 'blowback' that will eventually be our undoing.

Times of crises are both dangerous and important. They are dangerous for those who have no courage to explore new dimensions of life. They are bound to disintegrate into different kinds of madness, because their mind was made by society. Now with society disintegrating, the mind cannot remain; its roots are in society. It is constantly nourished by society – and now that nourishment is disappearing.

Because society is disintegrating, a great suspicion, a doubt that was never there before, is bound to arise in individuals. And if they were just obedient people who have never gone beyond any limit that society has decided, who have always been respected, honourable citizens, they will immediately go mad. They will start committing suicide; they will start jumping from high buildings.

In times of crises, the danger is for those who have enjoyed the times when society was settled, when there were no problems. These were the people who had enjoyed the obedience of the mind, and these are going to be the suffers. It is a simple arithmetic. They will go psychotic, they will go neurotic – and these words don’t make much difference.

Times of crises are of tremendous significance for those daring souls who have never bothered about society’s respectability or about what others think about them, but have done only that which they felt right to do; who have in a certain way been always rebellious, individualistic. For these people the times of crisis are just golden, because society is disintegrating. Now it cannot condemn anybody – it is itself condemned, cursed. It cannot say to others that they are wrong. It is proving itself wrong; its whole wisdom is proving just foolish, superstitious.

The daring individual can use this opportunity to go beyond mind; because now society cannot prevent him, he is free. There has never been so intense a search for spiritual growth, for meditation. But there has never been so much madness either. Both are happening because the status quo is no longer powerful; it has lost control.

Today, the old mind, the old society has lost credibility – and not in one place, but all over the world. There are different kinds of old traditions, but they all have come to a point where so many things are scientifically proved wrong.

The most intelligent people are rushing towards the east to find some way, some method. The people in east are trying to copy the west. A strange paradoxical scenario is there! Somewhere somebody must know how to get over this critical stage, how to go beyond the traditional mind and still remain centred, sane and intelligent.

Thousands of people are moving towards the East. It is funny because thousands of people are coming from the East to the West to study science, medicine, engineering, electronics, and the people who know all these are going to the East, just to learn how to sit silently and do nothing. But it is a beautiful time. The grip of society is lost. But the people who will go beyond mind will create the new man, the new mind. And the most special thing to be remembered about the new mind is that it will never become a tradition, that it will be constantly renewed.

Your mind may have to become continuously new, every day new, ready to accept any unexpected experience, any unexpected truth… just available, vulnerable. It will be a tremendous excitement, a great ecstasy, a great challenge. So I don’t think this crisis is bad; it is good. If the new mind can prevail then life can become an enlightening process. And enlightenment will not be something rare; it will become a very ordinary human experience.

For betterment, you may have to learn the management of your crisis. Crisis management, occasionally referred to as incident management, is the process by which you can deal with a major unpredictable event that threatens to harm you, your status or your beloved ones. You may find three elements common in all the crises: (a) it may be a threat to you, (b) it may have some element of surprise, and (c) it may compel you to take action with a short decision time.

Crisis management is different from risk management, which involves assessing potential threats and finding the best ways to avoid those threats, crisis management involves dealing with threats after they have occurred. It is a discipline within the broader context of management consisting of skills and techniques required to identify, assess, understand, and cope with a serious situation, especially from the moment it first occurs to the point that recovery procedures start.

Crisis management consists of:
• Methods used to respond to both the reality and perception of crises.
• Establishing metrics to define what scenarios constitute a crisis and should consequently trigger the necessary response mechanisms.
• Communication that occurs within the response phase of emergency management scenarios.

During the crisis management process, it is important to identify types of crises in that different crises necessitate the use of different crisis management strategies. Potential crises are enormous, but crises can be grouped as Natural disaster as acts of God for example earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tornadoes and hurricanes, floods, landslides, tidal waves, storms, and droughts that threaten life and property, Technological crises as software failures, industrial accidents, and oil spills etc., Confrontation like boycotts, and other types are picketing, sit-ins, ultimatums to those in authority, blockade or occupation of buildings, and resisting or disobeying police, Malevolence as product tampering, kidnapping, malicious rumors, terrorism, and espionage, Crisis of skewed management value as short-term economic gain and neglect broader social values, Crisis of deception or Crisis of misconduct as deliberate amorality and illegality, concealing or misrepresenting information about itself and its products in its dealing with consumers and others.

Since it is well known that we can face crises at any time, they can come to us without prior notice. For that purpose, we must have contingency planning as the first step to ensuring ourselves to be appropriately prepared for a crisis. We can rehearse a crisis plan by developing a simulated scenario to use as a drill. If it is our family or our business organization or our department where we work, our plan should clearly stipulate that the only people to speak publicly about the crisis are the designated persons, such as the spokesperson or crisis team members. The first hours after a crisis breaks are the most crucial, so working with speed and efficiency is important, and the plan should indicate how quickly each function should be performed. When preparing to offer a statement externally as well as internally, information should be accurate. Providing incorrect or manipulated information has a tendency to backfire and will greatly exacerbate the situation. The contingency plan should contain information and guidance that will help decision makers to consider not only the short-term consequences, but the long-term effects of every decision.

When a crisis will undoubtedly cause a significant disruption to normal working, a continuity plan can help minimize the disruption. First, one must identify the critical functions and processes that are necessary to keep running. Then each critical function and or/process must have its own contingency plan in the event that one of the functions/processes ceases or fails. Testing these contingency plans by rehearsing the required actions in a simulation will allow for all involved to become more sensitive and aware of the possibility of a crisis. As a result, in the event of an actual crisis, you or your members will act more quickly and effectively.

Providing information to your family members or team members in a time of crisis is critical to effective crisis management. Structural-functional systems theory addresses the intricacies of information networks and levels of command making up communication system. The structural-functional theory identifies information flow as "networks" made up of members and "links".

Sometime, you may have to open up to tender apologies to the aggrieved persons if any harm has been caused due to some incident which has come up with some contribution from your side. It is required in crisis management. However some evidence indicates that compensation and sympathy, two less expensive strategies, are as effective as an apology in shaping people’s perceptions about you taking responsibility for the crisis because these strategies focus on the victims’ needs. The sympathy response expresses concern for victims while compensation offers victims something to offset the suffering.

For proper management of crises in your life, you should practice to have appropriate sense making as it is considered a classical situation assessment step in decision making. Since crises do not give enough time to rehearse, decision making in those events is both the act of coming to a decision as the implementation of that decision. Whenever you face some crisis, you must handle the accountability question suitably. You must take the responsibility on your shoulders first if you are leader – actual responsibility process may take place afterwards. In crisis, the actual learning is limited. But it often opens a window of opportunity for reform for better or for worse.

Be Happy – Convert Your Sorrow To Joy

Sorrows are part of our life. They can come to you due to any reason at any stage of life, notwithstanding the fact how much you are alert and work with strict discipline. Perhaps sometime outside factors may go out of control for happening of some events. The sooner we learn to take responsibility for how we respond to events and turn them into joys, the less we will suffer.

How would you like to turn them into your joys?

It is very simple to do. Assume it that sorrows are there to examine your patience, your capabilities. When one chooses to walk upon the spiritual path, one often assumes that all people in the so-called spiritual community are going to act ethically and morally. It can come as a rude awakening when someone we respect as an expression of the divine, acts in ways that are hurtful, deceptive or, at the least, thoughtless.

When one has to wander out of the spiritual community into the mundane world, there are also tendencies for a spiritual individual to have a higher trust level, which can often leave one more vulnerable. In a world we are sometimes at greater risk to be taken advantage of or being hurt more easily.

How will we act in situations of betrayal or hurtful issues? We will act normally. We will feel violated, used, hurt, saddened, angry and so forth. Just because one is travelling a spiritual path, it does not mean that one does not have these natural reactions to something that is hurtful, Sometimes when we feel angry we will castigate ourselves because we are not being as good as we think we should. Even before we can get to the state of forgiving those who have wronged us, we need to first forgive ourselves for being normal or perhaps for not acting as spiritually as we expect of ourselves.

Guilt will not help in any situation when one is seeking to live a spiritual life. While many of us have been brought up in religious communities that promote the use of guilt and fear to maintain the status quo, a truly spiritual person will use negative events or thoughts to prompt positive growth and to evolve on the spiral of spiritual expression. A really wonderful teacher said to me: “To turn a negative event into a positive expression ask this question: What good can come from this?”

So, the fist step in forgiving self and forgiving others is to look at an issue from many different sides. Try to get into the mind of the person who perpetuated this issue and ask yourself: What prompted this person to act this way? What was their motivation and how did they see themselves receiving something that they needed by their needed by their actions? If you have trouble seeing the possibilities, discuss it with a confidant that you trust to hold your discussions confidentially. Look for feedback that is honest and not just someone telling you what you want to hear.

The most important thing that you needed to discover in the healing process of forgiveness is to learn intent. If the individual purposely tried to do what you consider wrong and you know they knew it was wrong or illegal, that is one issue. If they thought that what they were doing was not wrong and they were not trying purposely to hurt you, this is a totally different issue. Just a special note of warning, usually a person that you know has shown you patterns of small hurts or negative behaviors, you need to know if they were setting you up for the big one.

Also, reflect upon your response adding deep to find what buttons were being pushed by the event or issue that has caused you pain. You might find that why you were to learn a lesson, and I think in all strongly emotional events, both positive and negative, this is a constant factor. Remember, the spiritual individual will grow stronger by learning to think clearly and learn from the events over a lifetime. For me, choosing to allow myself to be vulnerable requires that I develop a greater sense of detachment and observation of my reactions to the world around me. Meditation is probably one’s most positive tool in seeking enlightenment. In fact, I think that one of the reasons that I might get angry with myself when I act with normal emotions is that it indicates to me that I have lost my spiritual detachment.

When you have worked your way around how you feel and the whys and so forth of a hurtful event, you are ready to begin the healing process. Sometimes you may think you have it clearly figured out, only to have something deeper pop up from your unconscious or the cosmic mind. Be gentle with you. And, be gentle with the other person.

Some people and counselors will suggest that one needs to confront the person who creates pain for self, but I do not necessarily think that is true. I think that we can do it on a spiritual or psychic level and have the same healing effect. Confrontation is usually just a vehicle to perpetuate more angry or hurtful behaviors. The person that you confront is not going to think he or she did anything wrong or if he or she does, it will be normal to become defensive. It will work just as well for you to write out a letter stating what happened, how it made you feel, and that you now release the negativity and transmute it to good. Then burn the letter and release it to the universal mind. You can use this technique to heal old hurts where the person is no longer available.

In forgiving yourself and in healing yourself, you can use visualization where you feel all of your energy returning to balance. Start at the top of your head and imagine wonderful healing energy entering the top of your head – like from the divine source. Let this energy slowly move through you body feeling it heal and empower you. Then imagine that it is going out through the soles of your feet into the ground and then through the center of the earth and then coming out the other side of the earth and creating a circle from whence it began from the universe.

All of us will have times of positive and negative events and issues through our lives. However, the sooner we learn to take responsibility for how we respond to events and turn them into positive us of energy, the less we will suffer and the more we will experience times of contentment and joy.

Be Happy - Remain Motivated (Part 2)

On 6 March 2009, I had made some suggestions on motivation. Once again, that topic draws my attention when I saw some of my friends are still under depression. Actually, motivation starts with you! None else may come forward to motivate you. What is his interest if he does not have relation with you? My mother used to always tell me, knowledge is power; it should not just reside in closed books. Please ensure to help, give it to people. I endeavor to do so.

If you aspire to be more successful in life, your attitude towards yourself and others will play a huge role. Positive people learn how to handle life's challenges differently and use these opportunities to grow. So can you!

Everyone wants a better life and if you are constantly working on self improvement, you will develop more self-confidence, better self-esteem and greater internal motivation to be the best. When you learn the secrets of teamwork and leadership, interpersonal communication skills and service, you can apply them to all aspects of your daily life.

It’s common, that lot of people try to tell to their close friends/relatives about how miserable their life is. They repeat their endless stories of strained married relationship, relationship with colleagues and boss, not happy with academic progress, job or salaries, happiness in day today life affairs.

Once you express your sympathy, their prominent question would always be
When do the good things start in their life?

Whenever I got this question from any of my friends, I asked him/her to find the answers at his/her end. Because if it is explored what is the root cause of the dissatisfaction, it would be easy to treat the illness.

You may differ on my expressions. But it's always been my way to speak out the truth no matter what.

In my childhood, I used to play cricket. Cricket was one of my favourite sports. I observed that one of the bowlers called “Smith” from other school was always able to take my wicket in his first 3 balls.

Next time I decided, what come may, I will not get bowled on his bowling. To my despair, I was again bowled by him on the very first bowl. He started laughing.

"What's so funny?" I asked him.

"YOU ARE!" was the answer. "I just wanted to see how many times I could do the same thing and you would respond the same way."

Most of us are like that.

If you put a mouse in a maze with cheese at the end, the mouse will run the maze for the cheese. But if you take the cheese away, the behaviour will "extinguish" and eventually the mouse will stop running the maze.

They did an experiment in a local university. The psychology department built a maze in the bottom of the building for students to run. They put money at the end of the maze and since college students always want money, they would run the maze.

But here's the interesting part, when the experiment was over and they took the money away. Students never stopped running the maze.

In fact, they caught students breaking into the psychology building at night to run the maze hoping to find the money.

It was EASY to get a MOUSE to change behavior.

It was nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get a HUMAN to change behavior. And that's where I express myself.

I have been putting up the notes on many subjects to ensure that most of us will now focus with a different way to look at life, attitude, behaviour, anger, change, success, happiness, progress and many more. Because according to our subconscious mind, which is extremely powerful, we get what we focus on. Though I could not get sufficient replies, I am not tired and have determined to do it with the hope if someone may take some benefits out of my experience.

I remember “Pintoo”, who was selling good stuff along with tea near our railway station was doing roaring business. Many of us used to order from his hotel. Also many of his customers were happy.

But soon, new big hotels with good ambience having many waiters to ensure cleanliness and provide faster services for the variety of food items started near his small hotel. Slowly the customers went with the big guys who gave them a better deal. Pintoo realized the competition and less business. He just kept "running the maze" doing what he had always done. It didn't work. He never changed.

Very soon, Pintoo realized and closed his hotel permanently. He was right. He had programmed his subconscious mind to get less business and sooner to close the hotel.
So now, let us answer the question.

"When do the good things start?"

As soon as we are ready to change our mind.

It's not easy. And that's why people recommend reading success stories, inspirational, motivational material. Improve our positive attitude. Parents ask us to keep a company of good friends.

Tons of material is readily available for you in the market. However it is not a fast-food corner that you pay money and read the books, listen to audio CD’s, watch the programs or attend two day seminar or costly training programmes and get permanently change yourself and subsequently outlook towards your life and become happy.

Moreover, it is extremely difficult to carryout above activities in our day to day fast, hectic lifestyle. We are out of our house for good 12 hours or busy in our work. What we read in news paper or Idiot box Television is nothing but politics, rape, murder, theft, blasts, serials on extra marital affairs or pre planned comedy show. I mean “None of the IMPORTANT things’’ those will be useful for our progress and betterment of our dear family.

"Then who will help an individual and support on above activities?"
There is a simple answer. You are there to help yourself. God helps those who help themselves.

Once again, I may mention that my late mother used to always tell me, knowledge is power; it should not just reside in closed books. Please ensure to help, give it to people. Most of them will be in need and one must fulfill the need of others. In doing so, you may too find solution of your problems, if any.

You need to remain happy by keeping yourselves motivated, whatever be your capacity otherwise depression may harm you more than other factors.

Be happy and remain motivated.

Be Happy – Celebrate Environment Day Sincerely For Being Happier Tomorrow

It is 5th June. It is World Environment Day, a day to create awareness of the better environment on the earth for its inhabitants, enhance political attention and public action for the purpose. It was the day when United Nations Conference on the Human Environment began in 1972 under the aegis of the United Nations. The first World Environment Day was on 5th June 1973.

A variety of environmental problems now affect our entire world. As globalization continues and the earth's natural processes transform local problems into international issues. Some of the largest problems now affecting the world can be enumerated like:

• Anoxic waters — Anoxic event, Hypoxia, Ocean deoxygenation, Dead zone
• Climate change — Global warming, Global dimming, Fossil fuels, Sea level rise, Greenhouse gas, Ocean acidification, Shutdown of thermohaline circulation
• Conservation — Species extinction, Pollinator decline, Coral bleaching, Holocene extinction, Invasive species, Poaching, Endangered species
• Dams — Environmental impacts of dams
• Energy — Energy commercialization
• Environmental degradation — Habitat destruction, Invasive species
• Environmental health — Air quality, Asthma, Electromagnetic fields, Electromagnetic radiation and health, Indoor air quality, Lead poisoning, Sick Building Syndrome
• Genetic engineering — Genetic pollution, Genetically modified food controversies
• Intensive farming — Overgrazing, Irrigation, Monoculture, Environmental effects of meat production, Slash and burn, Pesticide drift
• Land degradation — Land pollution, Desertification
• Soil — Soil conservation, Soil erosion, Soil contamination, Soil salination
• Land use — Urban sprawl, Habitat fragmentation
• Nanotechnology — Nano-toxicology, Nano-pollution
• Nuclear issues — Nuclear fallout, Nuclear meltdown, Nuclear power, Radioactive waste .
• Overpopulation — Burial, Water crisis, Overpopulation in companion animals, Tragedy of the commons
• Ozone depletion — CFC
• Pollution — Light pollution, Noise pollution, Visual pollution
• Water pollution — Acid rain, Marine pollution, Ocean dumping, Oil spills, Thermal pollution, Urban runoff, Water crisis, Marine debris, Ocean acidification, Ship pollution, Waste water, Fish kill, Algal bloom, Mercury in fish
• Air pollution — Smog, Troposphere ozone, Indoor air quality, Volatile organic compound, Particulate matter, Sulphur oxide
• Resource depletion — Exploitation of natural resources, Over drafting
• Consumerism — Consumer capitalism, Planned obsolescence, Over-consumption
• Fishing — Blast fishing, Bottom trawling, Cyanide fishing, Ghost nets, Illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, Over fishing, Whaling
• Logging — Clear cutting, Deforestation, Illegal logging
• Mining — Acid mine drainage, Mountaintop removal mining, Slurry impoundments
• Toxins — Chlorofluorocarbons, DDT, Endocrine disruptors, Dioxin, Toxic heavy metals, Herbicides, Pesticides, Toxic waste, PCB, Bio accumulation, Bio magnification
• Waste — E-waste, Litter, Waste disposal incidents, Marine debris, Medical waste, Landfill, Leach ate, Recycling, Incineration, Great Pacific Garbage Patch

Apart from the above, there may be some more reasons responsible for causing environmental hazards. If we, as responsible inhabitant of this beautiful earth, go through our own working sincerely, we may find ourselves responsible to some extent for enhancing pollution.

We too can take a few steps. For example, we use glass in our day-to-day life. After the use, we throw away. You know! A glass bottle that is sent to a landfill can take up to a million years to break down. By contrast, it takes as little as 30 days for a recycled glass bottle to leave your kitchen recycling bin and appear on a store shelf as a new glass container.
  • Glass recycling is both simple and beneficial. It is good for the environment...it is sustainable. Glass containers are 100-percent recyclable, which means they can be recycled repeatedly, again and again, with no loss of purity or quality in the glass.
  • Glass recycling is efficient.. Recovered glass from glass recycling is the primary ingredient in all new glass containers. A typical glass container is made of as much as 70 percent recycled glass. According to industry estimates, 80 percent of all recycled glass eventually ends up as new glass containers.
  • It conserves natural resources. Every ton of glass that is recycled saves more than a ton of the raw materials needed to create new glass, including: 1,300 pounds of sand; 410 pounds of soda ash; and 380 pounds of limestone.
  • It saves energy. Making new glass means heating sand and other substances to a temperature of 2,600 degrees Fahrenheit, which requires a lot of energy and creates a lot of industrial pollution. One of the first steps in glass recycling is to crush the glass and create a product called “cullet.” Making recycled glass products from cullet consumes 40 percent less energy than making new glass from raw materials, because cullet melts at a much lower temperature.
  • Recycled glass is useful. Because glass is made from natural materials such as sand and limestone, it glass containers have a low rate of chemical interaction with their contents. As a result, glass can be safely reused. Besides serving as the primary ingredient in new glass containers, recycled glass also has many other commercial uses—from creating decorative tiles and landscaping material to rebuilding eroded beaches.
  • Glass recycling is also simple. It’s simple because glass is one of the easiest materials to recycle. For one thing, glass is accepted by almost all curbside recycling programs and municipal recycling centers. About all most people have to do to recycle glass bottles and jars. Or, they may carry their recycling bin to the curb, or maybe drop off their empty glass containers at a nearby collection point.
Fireworks too contribute a lot to increase the pollution. Fireworks use is increasing in popularity around the world, including in countries without strict air pollution standards. Their use includes a variety of toxic pollution that rain down on neighborhoods from coast to coast, often in violation of environmental laws. Fireworks Can Be Toxic to Humans. Depending on the effect sought, fireworks produce smoke and dust that contain various heavy metals, sulfur-coal compounds and other noxious chemicals. Barium, for instance, is used to produce brilliant green colors in fireworks displays, despite being poisonous and radioactive. Copper compounds are used to produce blue colors, even though they contain dioxin, which has been linked to cancer. Cadmium, lithium, antimony, rubidium, strontium, lead and potassium nitrate are also commonly used to produce different effects, even though they can cause a host of respiratory and other health problems. The chemicals and heavy metals used in fireworks also take their toll on the environment, sometimes contributing to water supply contamination and even acid rain. Their use also deposits physical litter on the ground and into water bodies for miles around. Keeping in view the hazards of fireworks, we must think if we really need fireworks.

To make our environment better, we can think about the pattern of our commuting. Should we go in our cars, we should keep flying or we should prefer cycling? The simple answer is that driving in a relatively fuel-efficient car (25-30 miles per gallon) usually generates fewer greenhouse-gas emissions than flying. In assessing the global warming impact of a trip from Philadelphia to Boston (about 300 miles), driving would generate about 104 kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO2)—a leading greenhouse gas—per typical medium-sized car, regardless of the number of passengers, while flying on a commercial jet would produce some 184 kilograms of CO2 per passenger.

While even driving alone would be slightly better from the standpoint of greenhouse-gas emissions, carpooling really makes environmental sense. Four people sharing a car would collectively be responsible for emitting only 104 kilograms of CO2, while the same four people taking up four seats on a plane would generate some 736 kilograms of carbon dioxide. Flying from San Francisco to Boston, for example, would generate some 1,300 kilograms of greenhouse gases per passenger each way, while driving would account for only 930 kilograms per vehicle. So, again, sharing the drive with one or more people would lower each individual’s carbon footprint from the experience accordingly. In terms of saving for finance and time, air travel can be cheaper if you go for long distances.

If you talk about the emissions, an individual’s emissions from riding a bus (the ultimate carpool) or a train would be significantly lower. A cross-country train trip would generate about half the greenhouse-gas emissions of driving a car. The only way to travel greener might be to bicycle or walk—but the trip is long enough as it is. It depends upon you as to what you prefer – your own conveniences or the benefits for your present and future generations.

Though overall, aviation accounts for only about 2 percent of carbon dioxide emissions globally, at high altitudes jet exhaust may cause a warming effect that is two or three times greater than that of carbon dioxide. To reduce the affect, we can cut Night Flights especially in winter. It can help slow global warming by lowering greenhouse gas emissions caused by air traffic. At night, the warming effect is magnified, because there is no reflective cooling effect to help counter it. And the problem becomes worse in winter, when cold, moist air is more likely to exist at all elevations. According to the researchers, contrails are almost twice as likely to form in winter than in summer.

The research study, which was reported in the journal Nature, found that night flights accounted for only 25 percent of the daily air traffic but contributed 60 percent to 80 percent of the warming caused by commercial aviation. At the same time, winter flights accounted for only 22 percent of the annual number of commercial flights, but they contributed half of the annual warming effect.

What Causes Global Warming?

Scientists have determined that a number of human activities are contributing to global warming by adding excessive amounts of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide accumulate in the atmosphere and trap heat that normally would exit into outer space.

Greenhouse Gases and Global Warming

While many greenhouse gases occur naturally and are needed to create the greenhouse effect that keeps the Earth warm enough to support life, human use of fossil fuels is the main source of excess greenhouse gases. By driving cars, using electricity from coal-fired power plants, or heating our homes with oil or natural gas, we release carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere. Deforestation is another significant source of greenhouse gases, because fewer trees means less carbon dioxide conversion to oxygen.

During the 150 years of the industrial age, the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide has increased by 31 percent. Over the same period, the level of atmospheric methane has risen by 151 percent, mostly from agricultural activities such as raising cattle and growing rice.

The Consequences of Global Warming

As the concentration of greenhouse gases grows, more heat is trapped in the atmosphere and less escapes back into space. This increase in trapped heat changes the climate and alters weather patterns, which may hasten species extinction, influence the length of seasons, cause coastal flooding, and lead to more frequent and severe storms.

What are Greenhouse Gases?

Many greenhouse gases occur naturally, such as water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone. Others such as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) result exclusively from human industrial processes.

Human Activities and Greenhouse Gases

Human activities also add significantly to the level of naturally occurring greenhouse gases:
• Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere by the burning of solid waste, wood and wood products, and fossil fuels (oil, natural gas, and coal).
• Nitrous oxide emissions occur during various agricultural and industrial processes, and when solid waste or fossil fuels are burned.
• Methane is emitted when organic waste decomposes, whether in landfills or in connection with livestock farming. Methane emissions also occur during the production and transport of fossil fuels.

The Properties of Greenhouse Gases

Greenhouse gases vary in their ability to absorb and hold heat in the atmosphere, a phenomenon known as the "greenhouse effect." HFCs and PFCs are the most heat-absorbent, but there are also wide differences between naturally occurring gases. For example, nitrous oxide absorbs 270 times more heat per molecule than carbon dioxide, and methane absorbs 21 times more heat per molecule than carbon dioxide

How Do Humans Contribute to Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Global Warming?

Throughout most of human history, and certainly before human beings emerged as a dominant species throughout the world, all climate changes were the direct result of natural forces.

Industrial Age Accelerates Global Warming

That changed with the start of the Industrial Revolution, when new agricultural and industrial practices began to alter the global climate and environment. Before that time, human activity didn’t release many greenhouse gases, but population growth, deforestation, factory farming, and the widespread use of fossil fuels are creating an excess of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and contributing to global warming.

Invest half an hour to protect the environment by changing how you live each day

This we know that burning fossil fuels such as natural gas, coal, oil and gasoline raises the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and carbon dioxide is a major contributor to the greenhouse effect and global warming. You may not be able to reduce global warming, end pollution and save endangered species single-handedly, but by choosing to live an earth-friendly lifestyle you can do a lot every day to help achieve those goals. And by making wise choices about how you live, and the amount of energy and natural resources you consume, you send a clear message to businesses, politicians and government agencies that value you as a customer, constituent and citizen.

You can help to reduce the demand for fossil fuels, which in turn reduces global warming, by using energy more wisely. You can consider to take the following steps, apart from others what you think appropriate, to help reduce global warming.

1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Do your part to reduce waste by choosing reusable products instead of disposables. Buying products with minimal packaging (including the economy size when that makes sense for you) will help to reduce waste. And whenever you can, recycle paper, plastic, newspaper, glass and aluminum cans. If there isn't a recycling program at your workplace, school, or in your community, ask about starting one. By recycling half of your household waste, you can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

2. Use Less Heat and Air Conditioning

Adding insulation to your walls and attic, and installing weather stripping or caulking around doors and windows can lower your heating costs more than 25 percent, by reducing the amount of energy you need to heat and cool your home.

Turn down the heat while you're sleeping at night or away during the day, and keep temperatures moderate at all times. Setting your thermostat just 2 degrees lower in winter and higher in summer could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each year.

3. Change a Light Bulb

Wherever practical, replace regular light bulbs with compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. Replacing just one 60-watt incandescent light bulb with a CFL will save you $30 over the life of the bulb. CFLs also last 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs, use two-thirds less energy, and give off 70 percent less heat.

4. Drive Less and Drive Smart

Less driving means fewer emissions. Besides saving gasoline, walking and biking are great forms of exercise. Explore your community mass transit system, and check out options for carpooling to work or school.

When you do drive, make sure your car is running efficiently. For example, keeping your tires properly inflated can improve your gas mileage by more than 3 percent. Every gallon of gas you save not only helps your budget, it also keeps 20 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.

5. Buy Energy-Efficient Products

When it's time to buy a new car, choose one that offers good gas mileage. Home appliances now come in a range of energy-efficient models, and compact florescent bulbs are designed to provide more natural-looking light while using far less energy than standard light bulbs.

Avoid products that come with excess packaging, especially molded plastic and other packaging that can't be recycled. If you reduce your household garbage by 10 percent, you can save 1,200 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

6. Use Less Hot Water

Set your water heater at 120 degrees to save energy, and wrap it in an insulating blanket if it is more than 5 years old. Buy low-flow showerheads to save hot water and about 350 pounds of carbon dioxide yearly. Wash your clothes in warm or cold water to reduce your use of hot water and the energy required to produce it. That change alone can save at least 500 pounds of carbon dioxide annually in most households. Use the energy-saving settings on your dishwasher and let the dishes air-dry.

7. Use the "Off" Switch

Save electricity and reduce global warming by turning off lights when you leave a room, and using only as much light as you need. And remember to turn off your television, video player, stereo and computer when you're not using them.

It's also a good idea to turn off the water when you're not using it. While brushing your teeth, shampooing the dog or washing your car, turn off the water until you actually need it for rinsing. You'll reduce your water bill and help to conserve a vital resource.

8. Plant a Tree

If you have the means to plant a tree, start digging. During photosynthesis, trees and other plants absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. They are an integral part of the natural atmospheric exchange cycle here on Earth, but there are too few of them to fully counter the increases in carbon dioxide caused by automobile traffic, manufacturing and other human activities. A single tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime.

9. Get a Report Card from Your Utility Company

Many utility companies provide free home energy audits to help consumers identify areas in their homes that may not be energy efficient. In addition, many utility companies offer rebate programs to help pay for the cost of energy-efficient upgrades.

10. Encourage Others to Conserve

Share information about recycling and energy conservation with your friends, neighbors and co-workers, and take opportunities to encourage public officials to establish programs and policies that are good for the environment.

11. Eat Vegetables

Eating less meat and more fruits, grains and vegetables can help the environment more than you may realize. Eating meat, eggs and dairy products contributes heavily to global warming, because raising animals for food produces many more greenhouse gas emissions than growing plants. A 2006 report by the University of Chicago found that adopting a vegan diet does more to reduce global warming than switching to a hybrid car.

Raising animals for food also uses enormous amounts of land, water, grain and fuel. Every year in the United States alone, 80 percent of all agricultural land, half of all water resources, 70 percent of all grain, and one-third of all fossil fuels are used to raise animals for food.

Making a salad doesn’t take any more time than cooking a hamburger and it’s better for you—and for the environment.

12. Pay Your Bills Online

Many banks, utilities and other businesses now offer their customers the option of paying bills online, eliminating the need to write and mail paper checks or to keep paper records. By paying your bills online you can save time and money, lower the administrative costs of companies with which you do business, and reduce global warming by helping to prevent deforestation.

Signing up for online bill paying is easy and doesn’t take much time. You can either choose to have certain bills paid automatically each month or elect to review and pay each bill yourself. Either way, you will receive outstanding returns on your small investment of time.
