Be Happy – Believe Upon Yourself.

Believing you're better than others are may help you succeed though generally, people routinely lack their confidence upon their abilities. Sometime, they start some job but in the midway, give up. It is lack of confidence. Lack of confidence can be made up of several different aspects like: guilt, anger turned inward, unrealistic expectations of perfection, false sense of humility, fear of change or making mistakes, depression etc.

On the other hand, some people have overconfidence. Overconfidence can be a good thing, perhaps by boosting ambition, resolve, and other traits, creating self-fulfilling prophecies. It is called the most pervasive and potentially catastrophic of all the cognitive biases to which human beings fall victim. It has been blamed for lawsuits, strikes, wars, and stock market bubbles and crashes. Overconfidence can be beneficial to individual self-esteem as well as giving an individual the will to succeed in their desired goal.

Now, new computer simulations show that a false sense of optimism, whether when deciding to go to war or investing in a new stock, can often improve your chances of winning. There hasn't been a good explanation for why we are overconfident. Some time, overconfidence pays off when costs are low. You can make experiment without fear of any major loss if your overconfidence does not work well.

Johnson and colleague James Fowler, of the University of California, San Diego, developed a model using evolutionary game theory to explore how individuals with different strategies perform in competition with each other. In the model two imaginary individuals, X and Y, stake claims for resources. If both claim the resource and fight over it, the stronger individual wins and gains the resource. Both individuals pay a cost for fighting over it. If only one claims the resource, he gets it for free. If neither claims it, neither gets anything.

Johnson also noted two important twists: The virtual competitors may either overestimate or underestimate their real strength. Secondly, there may be uncertainty, or a degree of error in how a competitor perceives his opponents' strength. Based on these factors, a person then decides whether or not to claim the resource, while risking a fight if the other individual also claims it. They base their decision on their own perceived strength compared with how strong they believe their opponent to be.

The beauty of the model is it captures a lot of types of human competition whether it's arguing a court case or fighting over resources such as territory. The team ran simulations over thousands of generations with individuals who had varying levels of overconfidence and varying levels of error in their assessments of others, and observed which strategies were effective. As with physical evolution, advantageous strategies survived—or were naturally selected—and were passed down to the next generation. The results, published in the journal Nature, showed that overconfidence pays off only when there is uncertainty about opponents' real strengths, and when the benefits of the prize at stake is sufficiently larger than the costs.

If we compare both conditions – lack of confidence and overconfidence, I think both are not good if you are interested to achieve some target. Your confidence means you need to believe upon yourself. How? First, you need to value your time. Because

Time is too slow,

For those who wait

(for an appropriate opportunity).

Too swift for those who fear.

(for taking a risk)

Too long for those who grieve,

(for not getting something they desire)

Too short for those who rejoice,

(for material achievements)

But for those who love to work,
Time is eternity.

For getting confidence over yourself, you need to put in yourself in the work you assign to yourself against the target you fix after due deliberations of your resources, capabilities and your time. Confidence is generally described as a state of being certain either that a hypothesis or prediction is correct or that a chosen course of action is the best or most effective and this you can do when you are mentally ready to undertake some job with a view of your capabilities, resources and other matter. You must believe upon yourself so that you are able to concentrate upon the work. How would you start to believe upon you? It is a simple method. Try to consider the following:

1. You Must Dress up Yourself According to the Occasion.

Although clothes don’t make a person, they certainly affect the way you feel about yourself. No one is more conscious of your physical appearance than you are. When you don’t look good, it changes the way you carry yourself and interact with other people. You must use this to your advantage by taking care of your personal appearance. In most cases, significant improvements can be made by bathing very frequently, wearing clean clothes, and being cognizant of the latest styles.

This doesn’t mean you need to spend a lot on clothes. You may spend twice as much, to buy half as much. Rather than buying a bunch of cheap clothes, you must buy half as many but selected, high quality items. In long run this decreases spending because expensive clothes wear out less easily and stay in style longer than cheap clothes. Buying less also helps reduce the clutter in your closet.

2. You Must Walk Faster.

One of the easiest ways to tell how a person feels about himself/herself is to examine the walk that person undertakes. Is it slow? tired? painful? Or is it energetic and purposeful? People with confidence walk quickly. They have places to go, people to see, and important work to do. Even if you aren’t in a hurry, you can increase your self confidence by putting some pep in your step. Walking 25% faster will make to you look and feel more important.

3. You Must Display Good Posture.

Similarly, by practicing good posture, you’ll automatically feel more confident because the way a person carries herself/himself tells a story. People with slumped shoulders and lethargic movements display a lack of self confidence. They aren’t enthusiastic about what they’re doing and they don’t consider themselves important. Stand up straight, keep your head up, and make eye contact. You’ll make a positive impression on others and instantly feel more alert and empowered.

4. You Must Examine Yourself How You Deliver Your Views Before an Audience.

One of the best ways to build confidence is listening to a motivational speech. Unfortunately, opportunities to listen to a great speaker are few and far between. You can fill this need by creating a personal commercial. Write a 30-60 second speech that highlights your strengths and goals. Then recite it in front of the mirror aloud (or inside your head if you prefer) whenever you need a confidence boost.

5. You Must Express Your Gratitude For The Favors You Get.

When you focus too much on what you want, the mind creates reasons why you can’t have it. This leads you to dwell on your weaknesses. The best way to avoid this is consciously focusing on gratitude. Set aside time each day to mentally list everything you have to be grateful for. Recall your past successes, unique skills, loving relationships, and positive momentum. You’ll be amazed how much you have going for you and motivated to take that next step towards success.

6. You Should Compliment Other People Very Freely.

When we think negatively about ourselves, we often project that feeling on to others in the form of insults and gossip. To break this cycle of negativity, get in the habit of praising other people. Refuse to engage in backstabbing gossip and make an effort to compliment those around you. In the process, you’ll become well liked and build self confidence. By looking for the best in others, you indirectly bring out the best in yourself.

7. You Must Sit in the front row.

In schools, offices, and public assemblies around the world, people constantly strive to sit at the back of the room. Most people prefer the back because they’re afraid of being noticed. This reflects a lack of self confidence. By deciding to sit in the front row, you can get over this irrational fear and build your self confidence. You’ll also be more visible to the important people talking from the front of the room.

8. You Must Not Hesitate to Speak up.

During group discussions many people never speak up because they’re afraid that people will judge them for saying something stupid. This fear isn’t really justified. Generally, people are much more accepting than we imagine. In fact most people are dealing with the exact same fears. By making an effort to speak up at least once in every group discussion, you’ll become a better public speaker, more confident in your own thoughts, and recognized as a leader by your peers.

9. You May Undertake Some Work out.

Along the same lines as personal appearance, physical fitness has a huge effect on self confidence. If you’re out of shape, you’ll feel insecure, unattractive, and less energetic. By working out, you improve your physical appearance, energize yourself, and accomplish something positive. Having the discipline to work out not only makes you feel better, it creates positive momentum that you can build on the rest of the day.

10. You Should always Focus on contribution.

Too often we get caught up in our own desires. We focus too much on ourselves and not enough on the needs of other people. If you stop thinking about yourself and concentrate on the contribution you’re making to the rest of the world, you won’t worry as much about you own flaws. This will increase self confidence and allow you to contribute with maximum efficiency. The more you contribute to the world the more you’ll be rewarded with personal success and recognition.

The above steps, a few amongst many others, may help you believing upon yourself and achieve your targets as you get your confidence.

Be Happy – Believe Upon Yourself.
