Be Happy – Enjoy Your Sorrow

Sorrow, or we may call it as grief, anguish, woe or regret, means distress of mind. Sorrow implies a sense of loss or a sense of guilt and remorse, for example - a family united in sorrow upon some member's death. Loss of our job, financial benefits, social status etc. can be a cause of our sorrows. Grief implies poignant sorrow for an immediate cause like the inexpressible grief of the bereaved parents. Anguish suggests torturing grief or dread as the anguish felt by the parents of the kidnapped child. Woe is deep or inconsolable grief or misery. Cries of woe echo throughout the bombed city. Regret implies pain caused by deep disappointment, fruitless longing, or unavailing remorse. We nag regret for missed opportunities. They can affect our health, jobs, our faculties, our education, children, our spirituality related efforts, our vision and every thing which we can enjoy otherwise.

Sometime, our grief increases when we remember those incidents which occurred in our life in the past because there is no pain as great as the memory of joy in present grief. But sorrows are equally necessary because if we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome. We should not forget that for everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven. There is a time to be born, and a time to die. Always there is a time to plant something and also, we come across a time to pluck up what is planted. In our life, we do have a time to feel, and a time to heal. There comes a time when we break down and with passage of that time we restore ourselves and build up again. Some incidents make us weep and some of them make us laugh. Some time we mourn and we do have a time to dance. Some one throws away stones, and sometime, we team up to gather stones together. When we get emotional, we wish to embrace someone and sometime, we refrain from embracing. In course of life, we do have a time to seek, and on another time we can lose someone. A time is there when we need to keep something, and after some time we throw away. We do tear, and we sew also. Sometime we keep silence, and sometime we need to speak out. We love, and circumstances change and we find someone in our hate list. Some time, there happens to be a time for war and sometime we reconcile for peace.

This is the cycle of life. God gives us pleasures as well as sorrows - pleasures to enjoy our lives and sorrows to enable us to know the importance of the pleasures. Like the succession of days and nights, joys and sorrows are part of our life. I understand that this is the reason that we should take both sportingly. If we get too much involved in our sorrows, we may perhaps not be able to recover soon for our pleasures to enjoy them. Some time our sorrows occupy our attention so much that we do not find ourselves to concentrate on some other thing. They can divert attention and sometime, they compel us to give up the ill-thoughts about others as most of our time, we have to think of our own pains. This way, these sorrows can prove a boon to us when God wishes to divert our attention.

We must thank God for the sorrows – perhaps He wishes to warn us or divert our attention. With the sorrows, He warns us to be cautious or prepares us to enjoy the pleasures likely to come. Without experiencing darkness, we can not enjoy the light.

Be happy – We must enjoy our sorrows also.
